The Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the University of Florida's IT Security Team are presenting a free, half-day seminar for the public, on April 24, to help citizens and businesses protect themselves from the dangers on the Internet.

The Cyber Security Awareness for Everyone (C-SAFE) seminar will begin at 8:30 a.m. in UF's Reitz Union room 282. UF students, faculty and staff, as well as all the Gainesville community, are encouraged to attend.

C-SAFE focuses on how citizens and businesses can secure their computers and safeguard themselves from cyber crimes such as identity theft, cyber stalking, and viruses. Topics include safe e-mail practices, preventing identify theft, recognizing scams, and securing wireless networks.   To register and reserve a seat for the Gainesville C-SAFE seminar, please visit www.secureflorida.org .

Every month, new cyber threats surface that endanger Florida's citizens. With our ever-growing reliance on computers at home and in the workplace, we must be vigilant in the fight for better cyber security. Building knowledge and awareness of the dangers of cyberspace is the first crucial step.
